Make Trax Youth Field Guide

The youth field guide parallels the Make Trax curriculum lessons. In the youth guide, lessons are referred to as "steps" and lesson activities are simplified for easy use by youth who work on their own. Youth can also use the field guide as part of classroom instruction.
Adult-Youth Partnership
While Make Trax is a youth-led research project, adult involvement is essential at a few points.
Adults will:
- Administer activities and provide guidance as needed.
- Download and copy materials from the CD or ask youth to do so.
- Recruit adult partners for the field activity.
-
Schedule the student-led presentation to community leaders.
When Make Trax is part of the school curriculum, teachers and other community members involved in the project provide adult partnership. If Make Trax occurs outside of the classroom, adult partners may be members of a local Safe Routes to School planning team or other adults working with youth or youth groups. Adult partners should have experience in empowering youth and the ability to encourage discussion and the sharing of opinions.
