The Mineta Transportation Institute (MTI) has launched a nationwide contest for students with the theme “Let’s Get Going, Go Green, and build a better transportation future for all”. The theme addresses climate change and the ways to mitigate it through alternative transportation methods like walking, biking, taking the bus, and using electric vehicles.
The Elementary Poster Contest invites students in grades 1-6 to share their knowledge share safe transportation practices that inspire people to switch to transportation that is good for the planet and their communities. Six posters will be selected —three from grades 1-3 and three from grades 4-6. Winners will win gift cards, have their posters featured in the MTI monthly newsletter and shown at the MTI Banquet at San José State University.
The Essay Contest invites students in grades 6-12 to propose and explore a solution to a problem centered around a specific theme each year under one or more of the following principles of transportation: sustainability, equity, safety, community, and innovation.
Four winners will be selected. Winners will receive a certificate of achievement, gift cards, have their essays published in the MTI newsletter and website, and shared at the MTI Banquet at San José State University.
